Tiered Draft Reports in SkillShark: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Navigate to Reports
Go to the navigation bar on the left-hand side and select ‘Reports.’
Scroll down to ‘Tiered-Draft Reports’
Step 2: Create Report
Click on the blue ‘Create Report’ button on the top right-hand side.
Name the report.
Click on the ‘Select Events’ dropdown. From here, you will see all of the events (i.e., tryouts, clinics, mid-season evaluations, etc.) that you have conducted in SkillShark to date.
In this example, we have selected 2025 Fall Tryouts Skate #1 and 2025 Fall Tryouts Skate #2.
Note: This report will solely be based on the data gathered from these two events.
Step 3: Assign Event Modifiers
We will assign the following score modifiers, where tryout skate #1 is weighted more heavily:
2025 Fall Tryouts Skate #1- 60%
2025 Fall Tryouts Skate #2- 40%
Step 4: Draft Players
Two main examples of drafting players in SkillShark:
Simple- For drafting X number of players onto a team. I.e., Young kids on a soccer team who rotate through all positions.
Advanced- For drafting teams where players can’t switch positions. I.e., Hockey, where the team is comprised of different groups (forward, defence, goalie)
Step 5: Assign Weights to Positions
First, we will set the weights in our tiered draft reports for our ‘Forwards’ players.
For example, skating might be weighted more heavily than passing (based on your coaching formula for a forward player).
Next, set the weights in your tiered draft reports for ‘Defense’ players. Toggle on the metrics that apply to defense players, and assign a desired weight to each.
Repeat this process for goalies, as well.
Step 6: Assign Players to Position
Click on the ‘Positions’ tab.
In this example, we will first select on LW (left winger), RW (right winger), or C (center) from the dropdown menu. **This will pull up all kids who said they want to be an LW, RW or C (forward positions) on their registration form.
After identifying the ‘Forwards’ players, click on the ‘Player’ button at the top left to select all players at once.
Then, click on the blue ‘Bulk Actions’ button at the top right side, then click ‘Assign to Forward.’
Repeat this exact process for your ‘Defense’ and ‘Goalies.’
Step 7: Draft Teams
Select whether you want to go with a ‘Ranked’ or ‘Balanced’ approach:
Ranked- Groups players of similar skill together. I.e., All top forwards on one team, intermediate forwards on a 2nd team, and beginners on a 3rd team.
Balanced- Ensures each team has a similar overall skill level. I.e., A top, intermediate, and beginner player are put on one team so all teams have roughly the same skill level.
Next, select the ‘Draft Players to Teams’ option.
**Note: If you are conducting tryouts over multiple days and are not ready to select teams, choose ‘Player Lists.’
Select the number of teams you want to draft. In this example, we will choose 2 teams.
Step 8: Review Team(s)
Use the left column to switch between teams, viewing the players on each team.
To move player(s) onto another team, click the box beside their name and click on the blue ‘Bulk Actions’ button to move them to another team.
