Types of Athlete Reports to Run with SkillShark
You have just completed your spring tryouts. After scoring athlete performance on a variety of drills, two big questions loom over you: “Which players should we draft onto the team, and which positions are they best suited for?”
The answer to these questions will come from the data found in athlete reports. Rather than trying to manually configure these reports, which poses a risk of data loss and inaccurate results, SkillShark handles the task of generating reports for you.
Once players are evaluated on your mobile device, scores are automatically collected on the back end and formulated into 7 types of reports. All that is required from you is to select the report you want to view and choose the players & skills to analyze.
Let’s run through the 7 types of athlete reports you can run with SkillShark!
**For team drafting decisions and identifying top talent, the following 4 reports are the most suitable.
1. All Scores Report
The All Scores Report gives you a complete overview of player performance. More specifically, you can look at player performance in two ways:
See how players rank within a skill (i.e., Dribbling, passing, rebounding, and shooting in this example below).
See how players rank overall. 'Category overall' weighs each skill equally to give you an average overall score for a player.
All scores grid report. Overview of all skills within basketball
All scores report, providing a further breakdown of skills within defense.
2. Athlete Report Cards
Beyond verbal feedback at practices, athletes will gain a solid understanding of the areas they are excelling at and what they need to work on via athlete report cards.
Once scores are collected from your event(s), you can make some quick & easy customizations to the report, controlling what the athlete sees (i.e., displaying overall rank and skill rank). After being configured to your liking, reports are ready to be sent directly to your players’ inboxes!

3. Weighted Reports
Weighted reports enable coaches to find top-performing athletes across various positions.
For example, let's say you want to identify your 'Top Hitters' for your baseball team. In the weighted report, you will turn on the metrics related to hitting (contact, mechanics, and bat exit velocity) and adjust the weighting to be whatever you like. Let's suppose we assign the following weights to these hitting metrics:
Contact- 60%
Mechanics- 20%
Bat exit velocity- 20%
Once the report is created, you will instantly be able to see your top hitters based on your weighting assignments. To see exactly how to run a weight report, check out our tutorial video below:
4. Strengths vs. Weaknesses
Let's suppose you have one hitter left to choose for your baseball team. Looking at the other reports, it is hard for you to decipher which player is the best performer. With SkillShark's strength vs weaknesses report, compare up to 3 players on select skills (choose up to 8 at a time).
The visual snapshot gives coaches a clear, comprehensive view of how these three players stack up in their hitting abilities. Looking at the chart below, we can see that Timmy Strouts outperforms his teammates in mechanics, contact, and bat speed, making him a good choice for a hitter.

5. Athlete Self-Assessments
Self-assessments help athletes reflect on their abilities and set new goals while enabling coaches to gain valuable insights into an athlete's self-perception.
Any of your evaluation metrics can be rephrased into self-assessment questions. If we take the evaluation metric ‘Lay Ups’, you can ask your athletes to rank their confidence within this skill on a scale of 1-10. Additionally, you can ask your athletes to set a goal for how many layups they want to achieve for a specific time period, giving them something concrete to work toward.

6. Individual Development Reports
Individual development reports give you a clear snapshot of each player’s growth. Once you’ve selected metrics, you can view the historical data for each. For example, you can track an athlete’s progress—or setbacks—in their hitting mechanics over the course of the season.
Athletes can visually see the impact of their efforts, and you can use this data to refine your coaching technique (i.e., add additional practice drills to help a player improve hitting contact in baseball).

Speaking as a parent who had kids in youth sports, it was terrific getting feedback reports from SkillShark. It showed what skills they did best, which helped build their confidence, and it gave me direction as a parent in regards to what to focus on.

FAQ—Types of Athlete Reports
Tracking athlete performance provides both coaches and players with greater insight into an athlete's skill set & capabilities. Coaches can then use these insights to provide thorough feedback to that athlete, helping them develop as a stronger player.
If you are making final drafting decisions or want to see how your top players fare against each other, SkillShark offers a strengths vs. weaknesses report to compare up to three players on up to five skills.
Feedback can be provided to each of your players at an individual level through SkillShark's report cards. Once an athlete is evaluated in SkillShark, you can immediately email them a copy of their report card for review, complete with scores, comments, and videos (if added).
It is important to track player development to see how a player has progressed (or regressed) within a skill(s).
For example, let's assume a player scored a 5.5 on dribbling at tryouts. At the year-end evaluation, that player scored a 7.5. With this data, you can communicate to this player that:
A) That they improved in dribbling and
B)Show them how much they improved by.
Athlete self-assessments provide an opportunity for athletes to reflect on their skills & set new goals. For coaches, self-assessments provide valuable insights into an athletes mindset—insights that might otherwise be inaccessible.
