Building Evaluation Templates in SkillShark: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Navigate to the Evaluation Template

  • Go to the navigation bar on the left-hand side and select “Evaluation Settings.”
  • Choose “Evaluation Template” from the drop-down options.

Step 2: Add Categories

Add categories
  • The first part of creating your evaluation template is adding categories.
  • Click “Add Category” on the top left-hand side.
  • Name the category and click “Create.”

Types of Categories

Baseball categories
  • Create general categories in which all your players will be evaluated. I.e., Positional.
  • Create additional categories to evaluate players depending on the position. I.e., Pitching or catching.

Step 3: Add Skills

Types of skills
  • Skills are created within categories to keep your evaluation template organized.
  • I.e., Within the category of pitching, some of the skills added could be physical and pitch speed.
Baseball skills
  • To add a new skill, navigate to the appropriate category by double-clicking on it.
  • Once in the appropriate category, click on “Add Skill” on the top right-hand side.
  • Name the skill and click “Create.”

Step 4: Add Metrics

Add metrics
  • The last component of creating your evaluation template is adding metrics.
  • To add a metric, click on “Add Metric” under any skill.
  • Select the metric type, name the metric, assign the mix and max score (for subjective scores and objective scores) and/or fill out the details (for comment-only and choice metric scores).
  • Save your changes.

Hitting metrics
  • Note: While categories and skills help organize the template and segment players, metrics are what athletes are scored on.
  • For example, within the skill hitting, bat speed, power, contact and mechanics would be the metrics that athletes are scored on.

Step 5: Finalize Template

  • Your customized evaluation template will be automatically available for any of your events. I.e., Can be used at any tryout, mid-season evaluation or clinic.
  • Note: Modifications made to the template will be reflected in any subsequent evaluations.
